It’s hard to believe Christmas has already come and gone once again. What a wonderful time of year to gather with loved ones from near and far enjoy wonderful food, exchange gifts, and ultimately celebrate the greatest gift of all, our Lord and Savior. This season always reminds us of how important it is to have our priorities in check especially as the new year approaches. As we have seen from so many around us, New Years Resolutions seem to be great for the first and second week of January but then seem to lessen as the days go by. This year, we would like to recommend a new kind of New Year’s Resolution that we believe will greatly impact 2020.
Each Day is a New Day.
Psalm 118:24 says “This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Many times our resolutions are vague and not specific like: eat healthier, work-out 5 times a week, spend more time with family, etc. However, many times we burden ourselves with goals that seem unachievable and thus quit altogether. What if we had the mentality that each day is a new day given to us by God to strive for excellence in all we do from our careers to family, to taking care of our bodies and hearts.
Be Present.
In our world, being present is not the most popular thing to do. However, those around us will thank us. With technology at our fingertips and distractions hitting our brains by the second, being present and content at the moment many times doesn’t even seem to come to mind. However, being present not only shows others you care about them and what they have to say, but it allows you to maximize your day with the opportunities that come your way.
I Choose Joy.
We have the opportunity each morning to choose joy or something else. On difficult days or exciting ones, we have the decision to choose how we are going to view the day, ourselves, and the circumstances that the day presents. Thus, it’s important that we choose joy, not only for ourselves but for those around us. When we choose joy, we are choosing that no matter what comes my way, my heart and mind are not wavered by circumstances. What a wonderful gift this is.
