Reset Your Home in the Winter Months

When we are in the middle of winter, it’s easy to feel stuck and in a rut. We get it. However, we would like to give an alternative approach to resetting your home in the winter months before you get the urge to be outside or start your spring cleaning schedule. Not only will this give you a head start for spring cleaning, but it will also give you sanity as you brave out the winter months.

Dusting

Our first recommendation for resetting your home in the winter months is to begin with a deep dusting of your space. Start high and work yourself low as you go from room to room in your home. What does this practically look like? We recommend using a swifter or expandable duster to dust walls, trim, doors, and surfaces for starters. Once you’ve done this, observe items in your space that have collected dust in the process, this includes items such as tech, plants, furniture and picture frames and dust those as well.

When dusting, use a dust catching mitt or a cloth that is slightly damp, so you are sure to collect the dust and not simply spread it from surface to surface.

Minimize

This step can be the hardest for some, but it is so important as you reset your home; minimize your belongings and space. We recommend doing this by taking a step back in the room you’re working on and to simply observe it. Look at coffee tables, shelves, console tables, the floor (!), and see where there is unnecessary clutter. When our space gets crowded, so does our mind. This is why it’s so important to declutter and minimize your space often!

Rearrange

We encourage you to have fun with this important, final step. It is easy to have our spaces look the same for years because we simply never move anything around. This can be as simple as moving decor to different rooms, moving a couch or changing up your throw pillows. Remember- rearranging is simply to help your space feel fresh and new again. We know you will feel great when it’s done.
