How to Have an Organized Home

Let’s be honest. We all have areas in our home that are put together and look nice. These areas typically are where we spend a lot of time and keep clean regularly. However, have you ever considered having your home organized beyond the typical rooms? In this blog post, we’d like to provide a 4-Step Strategy on how to have an organized home.

Always Declutter First

The first (and most important) step in having an organized home is always having systems in place where you declutter first. Organizing an abundance of items only makes the process take longer and not be as effective in the end because you’re working with items that shouldn’t be kept.

How do you declutter? We recommend having a 3-box system. Have the boxes labeled, TRASH, DONATE, and SELL. Simply go room-by-room in your home (slowly) and add any items that are not being used or needed in the appropriate box. As you finish a room or space, remove the boxes and bring them to the next space. We recommend doing this for all of your rooms before beginning the organizing process.

Categorize and Reimagine

Now that your space only has the items you’ve deemed necessary, categorize and reimagine the space you have for how it can work for you and your belongings. Is this a space that needs totes and extra drawer storage? Is this a room that needs large bins with labels? Is there a better place the items you are working with could be than this particular space? Reimaging your space allows you to bring items to appropriate, new homes so that your organization can be as effective and efficient as possible.

Purchase Proper Organzation

Our next step is to now go room by room and review what items are there and what organization materials would be best to accomplish what your goal is. Once you know how that area will best store your items, purchase bins, drawer organizers, baskets, stackable plastic drawers, etc. so that way you’re set up for success.

Now… Organize

Once your organization materials arrive, go room by room and organize your items accordingly. You may notice while doing this that you need to move more items around, add to the donate box, or need an additional tote. That’s the point of this process; working through the space so it works for you and isn’t work for you.
