As Christmas festivities are behind us and we look forward to a new year, there’s always a sense of bittersweet. Reflecting on a year can bring many different emotions depending on what is behind us and what we may see in the near future. In this blog post, we would like to encourage you that this new year can be a refresh, no matter how 2024 was for you.
Reflect
First off, it’s hard to have a refresh if we haven’t had a proper time to reflect on the previous year. This can be done through journaling, quiet time spent alone, or even out in nature. When we have intentional time to sit back and reflect, it can provide much-needed closure, healing, or even excitement for what is to come. Reflection is also a necessity for personal growth and development. If we never reflect, we can not truly understand how we can become better versions of ourselves or reevaluate priorities that may need to shift.
Dream
This may sound cliche, childish, or even like a waste of time, but hang with us for a while. When we take the time to dream, we take the time to envision, create, and plan. When we go into a new year with dreams and plans in which we can execute those dreams effectively, we are on our way to truly making our new year transformational in our lives. Dreaming can simply be putting a bullet-point list together of goals we may have. It may mean asking those around us for ways we can improve. After you have dreamed, find at least 3 dreams you can implement starting in the New Year right away.
Surrender
Not the word you may have expected, but one that is important to address. Ultimately, we are not in control, and being naive to the fact that all of our dreams are possible with a checklist would be foolish thinking. However, the Bible calls us to fully surrender our hopes and dreams to God and that then He will truly align our desires with His (Psalm 37:4). Once we have surrendered our above hopes and dreams, our heart posture will be effective as we strive for a New Year refresh because we are coming at it with humility, and not simply a control-minded approach.
